Beyond Yahoo, Google, and Bing, there are several moderately popular search engines which are worth trying out. One of them is the subject of this review, Websquash.com.
RESULTS: This search engine shows fifteen results per page, with varying numbers of sponsored listings. The amount of sponsored links is a bit high, but the search result relevance is quite good. The results are consistently of high enough quality to use Websquash as your primary search engine.
EXTRAS: Websquash also has a web directory with numerous listings. It doesn't have a news or image search, nor an "Advanced Search" function. In the regular web search, searchers can prefix their words with a - or + symbol to ensure that a word is included or avoided in results. Searches in quotes don't appear to affect the results.
DESIGN: Websquash loads fast and is compatible with many browsers (including older versions of IE and Opera). Sponsored listings are distinguished from standard results fairly well. Direct links are used for visiting sites in the results, which is better for privacy (compared to Yahoo! or AltaVista).
