The FRS-440 is a small walkie-talkie that communicates on the Family Radio Service band. It has an integrated antenna, built-in speaker, small LCD screen, headset jack, and digital thermometer. In addition to transmitting and receiving on FRS, it can receive FM and weather band radio - including all seven channels.

Weather band reception is clear in some locations, but weather radios with telescopic antennas will usually far outperform the Uniden FRS440. It tunes fourteen FRS channels. It is somewhat complicated to figure out all of the radio's features if you don't have the manual. The digital thermometer works, but may be a few degrees off. The LCD briefly lights up when a button is pressed.

There is a volume/power control, call/menu button, up/down arrow buttons, and a large blue (unlabeled) talk button. The Uniden EcoTrek3 runs on three "AA" batteries. It has a battery strength indicator at the top of the LCD. The walkie-talkie will fit in a pocket and it only weighs 5.9 ounces (167g) with batteries.
