If your adapter doesn't work, don't immediately order a new one or give up. With a few troubleshooting steps, you can solve many common AC to DC power adapter problems.
Minor Problems
When you begin troubleshooting, check for simple, obvious problems before assuming the unit is damaged. A loose plug, a power strip which was accidentally turned off, or a switch in the wrong position could provide an explanation of why the adapter won't work.
Wrong Voltage
The AC to DC power adapter could be set to an incorrect voltage or polarity (if it's adjustable). You may also have the wrong type of adapter for the electronic device. Check the manuals, back panels, markings, etc. of the adapter and the device to see if the power specifications match.
Bad Fuse
Another useful troubleshooting step is to check the fuse on the electronic device or the AC to DC adapter, to see if it's burned out. You may need a screwdriver to access the fuse. If necessary, replace it with a fuse of the same type.
