Toshiba Satellite 100CS Technical Info

DESCRIPTION

- Dark grey exterior, color display, Pentium processor, Energy Star label. Ports: PS/2, parallel, serial, and VGA. Two PCMCIA slots. Assembled in USA.

DRIVES

- It has a thin 1.44 MB 3.5" floppy drive. Uses 5 volts at 0.8 A.
- The IBM DBOA-2528 528MB hard disk drive works in this computer, and runs on 5 volts at 500 mA. 12.5mm, 2.5" hard drives will fit.

INTERNAL

- There are two blue-green removable Ni-Mh batteries hidden inside the computer. They can corrode if not removed or replaced for a long time. The batteries include:

1. Varta 7.2V 110 mAh, Toshiba Part No. P71007005015
2. Varta 3.6V 30 mA, Toshiba Part No. P71007006036

- After removing the recessed screws on the bottom, you can lift the keyboard to access most components. Screws within the battery compartment must be removed to access some parts.

SCREEN

- The color DSTN screen has a sharp picture and can show 640x480 graphics at 256 colors, among other modes. There is a small brightness control on the side of the screen. In the "System Setup" screen, the LCD backlight may be set to BRIGHT or SEMI-BRIGHT.

MEMORY

- An easily accessible compartment on the bottom of the 100CS allows access to its memory expansion slot. A board may be installed that expands memory to 24MB; others might be available as well.

POWER

- The 100CS does not require an external power supply/adapter. It uses a standard 2-prong cord, which come in various lengths.
- The main battery is a Toshiba Ni-Mh Model No. PA2435U. It provides 12 volts DC, 2600 mAh. Some units may contain different batteries. The "System Setup" screen offers power-saving functions such as lowering the CPU speed or turning off the screen during inactivity.

OTHER

- Various operating systems and GUIs will work on the Toshiba Satellite 100 CS, including (among others): Windows 95, DOS, DeskMate 3.05.
- If the computer powers on but won't boot, try pressing SHIFT-F1, then F1 or ESCAPE. In some situations, it may boot after several failed attempts.
