Sony ICF-PRO70 / PRO80 Radio Details

The Sony ICF-PRO70 looks like a walkie-talkie, but it's actually a shortwave radio and communications receiver. The PRO-80 is the same, but it was sold with a converter that enables reception of even more bands - making it like a police scanner and full coverage world band radio combined.

According to an advertisement which appeared in the '88 "World Radio TV Handbook", the ICF-PRO70 tunes 0.15 through 108 MHz and it can receive in AM, FM, and SSB modes. It has forty presets and several different tuning methods. The ICF-PRO80 also receives 115.15 through 223 MHz. There is an LCD, about twenty buttons, and three knobs.

These radios are capable of receiving international broadcasts, a wide variety of two-way communications (police, Ham, CB), and much more. The "80" model also covers the NOAA weather information band, the VHF aircraft communications band, and additional police/fire/marine frequencies.
