One of the lesser-known search engines is SonicRun.com, which offers a general websearch and several specialized searching options. The following review looks at its results, features, and design.
FEATURES: This Canada-based search engine has web, meta (multiple engines), blog, and news search functions. It does not have an image searching feature or an "Advanced Search" function. Sonic Run properly responds to quotes and +/- symbols in queries.
RESULTS: The quality of Sonic Run results is fair under the regular websearch, but significantly better using their metasearch function. The metasearch cycles through five results each from Sonic Run, Exactseek, Yahoo, and Hostway.
Searching articles yields results from GoArticles.com. The blog search finds blogs, not individual posts/entries. The Sonic Run news search is probably the best of the five. It lists up-to-date recent news articles and shows the time/date they appeared.
DESIGN: SonicRun.com has a pleasant, colorful design. Pages usually load quickly, even on dial-up. It's easy to switch from one mode of searching to another, and possible to save one of the five main search pages as a web browser favorite/bookmark.
