Emerson Research CKS-1850: This clock radio is relatively
inexpensive and has many useful features, such as dual wake times,
day of the week indicator, and an automatic time backup system. It
worked acceptably for several months. However, after this period of
time, the buttons began to fail and parts of the time display became
dimmer. The radio receives AM and FM. Reception is fairly good although
not remarkable. This particular unit may have not been manufactured
as well as others, or this may be typical. Update: With the new
start and end dates of daylight savings time, this clock's automatic
daylight savings time feature is not working properly, in that it does not
update at the appropriate date, then it will change the time incorrectly
when the old date arrives; this is especially a problem if the buttons for
manually adjusting the time have failed.
RCA RP3703A: This clock radio has a large green digital display,
an analog AM/FM radio with good reception, and a fairly large snooze
button. It has two wake (alarm) times, so you can easily switch it from one
time to another, which is useful if you don't always have to wake up at
the same time each day or if you have to wake up more than once in a
twenty-four hour period. At first it can be a bit complex to use if you don't
have the instructions. It also has a 9V battery back-up feature and a
switch to make the time display dimmer or brighter.
