The Astronaut-8 is an impressive vintage shortwave/multiband radio receiver. It has numerous features and many knobs, jacks, and buttons. The 12-751A will run on six "D" batteries or AC power.
The solid state receiver picks up eight bands, including 540-22,000 kHz AM/SW and the following VHF/FM/AIR frequency ranges: 30-50, 88-135, and 147-174 MHz. Most multi-band radios cover fewer frequencies than the Astronaut-8.
The unit's exterior is mostly black and chrome. It has a fold-out world map with a world time calculator wheel. There are controls for band spread, volume, tuning, squelch, and tone, as well as BFO and AFC switches. The 12-751A also has a dial light.
Basically, the Realistic Astronaut-8 offers an excellent combination of thorough band coverage and valuable features. This gives it the potential to tune a huge variety of broadcasts and communications.
