The Radio Shack 61-856 is a rechargeable flashlight which can be plugged into a two- or three-prong AC outlet for charging. Its batteries and light bulb can be removed for replacement when necessary. It comes with fairly detailed instructions. According to the instruction manual, this RadioShack lantern uses a "2.4V 0.835A Philips" Krypton bulb. The rechargeable batteries are Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) type. A Phillips-head screwdriver is necessary to open the battery compartment. This flashlight also has a built-in nightlight which turns on when it is plugged in. The main lightbulb will turn on in a power outage if it is plugged in and the switch is set to "ON". The instructions state that it should be charged twenty-four hours before initial use. The Radio Shack 61-856 Emergency Lantern is easy to use and offers some useful features. Before failing, it lasted longer than most rechargeable flashlights, but not as long as the typical standard battery-powered flashlight.
