The receiver has four knobs on the front, situated on a strip of woodgrain. They include tone, tuning, volume, and band/AFC. It has a horizontally positioned tuning scale.
The RE-746 is a Japanese-made solid state radio with ten transistors and seven diodes. It can receive the AM (525-1605 kHz) and FM (87-108 MHz) bands. It is similar to the Panasonic RE-756.
