Review: Mr. Coffee TCX81 8-Cup Coffee Maker

This is a fairly large eight-cup coffeemaker with a thermos-style decanter. It has a black exterior and a small LCD clock. The Mr. Coffee "Thermal Gourmet" TCX-81 uses basket style 8-12 cup filters.

The carafe/decanter is easy to open/close/pour. The replacement model is CT83. One downside is that there's no warming plate to keep the liquid hot; it's helpful to have a microwave oven to heat your mug (and its contents) if you don't drink all of it immediately.

The Mr. Coffee TCX81 has two indicator lights; green ("Auto Start") and red ("On"). Keep in mind that red means it is starting/running, not stopped. The clock can show the current time and set the coffeemaker to start running at a certain time. There is a water level indicator on the front, with a red ball that makes it easy to read.

This unit is powered using a built-in AC power cord with two prongs (polarized). Overall, it's a reliable and easy to use coffeemaker that is well designed in most ways.
