This is a vintage portable transistor radio with analog tuning, a speaker, and a hand strap mount. As its model name suggests, the Magnavox AM-801 only receives the AM band (540-1600 kHz).
The strap mount is on top of the unit, and could briefly be mistaken for a retracted antenna. There's an artistic Magnavox badge in the lower-right corner of the radio's front panel.
A fit-over case was available for the 801, which leaves its tuning dial uncovered and has numerous holes in the speaker area. A service manual about this receiver was also published.
