A portable two-band unit with digital tuning, the Kaito Airwave KA12AIR "PLL FM/Aircraft Synthesized Receiver" picks up both FM radio stations and local two-way aircraft communications. It is black with white lettering.
This "Airwave" receiver is powered using two "AA" batteries or an adapter connected to its 6-volt DC power jack. Sound output is achieved via the integrated speaker or an earphone jack. The Kaito Airwave KA12AIR also has a carrying strap.
The Kaito KA12AIR tunes 87.5-108 and 118-138 MHz VHF/FM. It does not cover the AM band. There is a jack for connecting an external antenna, as well as a "Local/DX" sensitivity switch. The LCD shows the time or frequency, plus a battery indicator.
Other features of this Chinese-made Kaito radio include a reset button and station/channel memories.
