LessWaiting.com Information Main Menu KENMORE 92779: This 2.7 cubic foot dorm freezer-refrigerator is available at Sears (August '07 sale price $99, regular $119) stores and features a three-level cooling area, with two shelves on the door. The freezers in these units are small, only being half as wide as the rest of the refrigerator. The Kenmore model 93972 has a higher capacity (3.9 cubic feet) and is somewhat more expensive ($139); it features a larger freezer which is the same width as the refrigerator. DANBY DCR: The Danby Deluxe Compact Refrigerator (4.3 cubic feet) costs just under $160 at Target stores. It has a full width freezer, a four-level refrigerator compartment, three door shelves, and a can dispenser feature. The can dispenser allows a stack of cans to be piled horizontally, which are then dispensed individually at the bottom of the stack as each can is removed. This enhances its convenience and helps to conserve space. HAIER HSB02: This is a smaller 1.7 cubic foot model which can be purchased inexpensively at Wal-Mart ($69.96) and offers a small freezer (half-width), two-level refrigerator, and two shelves on the door. This model is white; a similar model (the HNSB02BB) has a black exterior but is about $10 more expensive. A larger unit, the Haier HSB03, has a greater refrigerator capacity (2.7 cubic feet) and costs about $99, but still has a half width freezer unit. AVANTI 309YBT: A black 3.1 cubic foot dorm refrigerator-freezer, the 309YBT provides a larger freezer than many similar models. Rather than a freezer door which is behind the refrigerator door (like most dorm refrigerator units with freezers), this appliance has two separate doors. This increases the freezer capacity (there are shelves on both doors), and prevents cool air from being lost by the refrigerator when only the freezer needs to be opened. One eBay seller offers these for $239, and several shopping & appliance websites sell them for $175-350. Other appliance brands which make one or more compact dorm models of this type include General Electric, Summit, and Surpentown. The stores Circuit City and Best Buy also sell them, in addition to the above-mentioned retailers. Prices and specifications accurate as of August, 2007.
