Buying TV Series on DVD and VHS

TV series on DVD or VHS can be a great source of entertainment, if there's an old TV show you'd like to see again which isn't on TV anymore, or if you just want to watch episodes from a series without tuning in at a particular time or sitting through the commercials. They also make a nice birthday or Christmas gift for the right person. Here are some TV series which are available on DVD and/or VHS tape to consider...

CHEERS: The popular '80s sitcom "Cheers" is available on both DVD and VHS tape. Most "Cheers" VHS tapes contain 2-3 episodes; some eBay sellers offer single tapes, while others offer sets of several. "Cheers" DVDs are usually sold in entire season sets of four discs.

THE OFFICE: Seasons of NBC sitcom "The Office" only appear to be sold on DVD in the United States. Wal-Mart offers "The Office" season two, or a set of seasons one and two.

BONANZA: The popular western "Bonanza", about adventures of the Cartwright family, is usually sold in sets of 1-4 episodes (perhaps because of the longer one-hour episode length). The video tapes usually contain one episode each, with some packages containing two tapes, and the DVDs are mostly packaged as three-, four-, or 20-episode sets.

MONARCH OF THE GLEN: The newer U.K. drama series "Monarch of The Glen" is available from Wal-Mart in large multi-episode sets. Less expensive video tapes with fewer episodes can be found on eBay. As with the other series, shipping for video tapes will usually be cheaper from sellers who offer Media Mail as an option (the postal service allows video tapes and books to be mailed at a discounted rate).

FRASIER: The sitcom "Frasier", about Seattle radio psychologist Dr. Frasier Crane, can be purchased on DVD, as well as less-common VHS tape sets. Both the DVDs and VHS tapes are usually sold in one-season sets.

TWILIGHT ZONE: The black & white science fiction series "The Twilight Zone" is available on two-episode VHS tapes, as well as multi-disc DVD "collections" of about thirty episodes each.

Many other series are also available. TV series on DVD can be purchased at stores like Sears or Wal-Mart, while series on VHS are more likely to be found on eBay.com, as well as the occasional yard sale or thrift shop. TV series on VHS are usually older, while old and new series are bothavailable on DVD. If you are buying these as a gift, be sure that the recipient owns the appropriate type of video player.
