System 6 is an older operating system which can be used for color or black and white Macintosh computers, such as the LC-series. A number of applications, games, and other software are available for it. It includes a few basic "accessories", like a calculator and alarm clock. System six starts up and runs more quickly than some more recent Apple operating systems, although its features aren't as extensive and it cannot be used on newer Macintosh computers. Sys. 6.0.8 boots in approximately twenty-five to thirty seconds on a Mac LCII computer. Software for it can be found on the internet, although there is only a limited variety remaining available for download. A downside of Macintosh Sys. 6 is that it is more difficult to transfer files to or from it and DOS or Windows operating systems.
