IBM PS/2 Model 25LS Computer Information

The model 25 LS is a PC-compatible desktop computer from the late 1980s. It can primarily run software made during the '80s and some programs from the early '90s.

The 1993 edition of "The Secret Guide to Computers" indicates that the IBM 25LS uses 720k 3.5" floppy disks, has an XT 8086 processor, and uses MCGA video. It cannot read the higher-capacity 1.44MB floppies, which are most common.

The MCGA system is superior to CGA (and EGA in some ways), and it can display many more colors. However, MCGA is limited to two colors at 640x480 resolution (basic VGA can display 16 different colors at this resolution).

According to the manufacturer, the original model 25 was released in 1987, and the LS version introduced in June, 1988. The IBM PS/2 model 70 first appeared in the same month.

The 25LS is in many ways equivalent to the Tandy 1000 RL, which also has an 8086 CPU and 720k 3.5" drive. The RL features enhanced TGA video - an improved version of CGA, like MCGA.
