The IBM PS/ValuePoint series of PC-compatibles was intended to provide a better value than more costly models offered by the same brand and other high-end manufacturers in the early to mid '90s. The '93 edition of the "Secret Guide to Computers" states that the 486DX-33 desktop cost just over $2100 USD, at a time when 486 computers were still quite new. It came with a 120 megabyte hard disk drive, 14" color monitor, four megabytes of memory, an operating system, a mouse, and a year of repair service. A computer such as this can run operating systems like DOS, Windows 3.x (or 95), GEOS, FreeGEM/OpenGEM, or DeskMate 3. Equipped with a modem or network card, it can access the Internet.
