About the IBM PCjr Modem

The original PCjr internal modem operated at only 300 bps, or 0.3 kbps. It was designed for use with the IBM PC jr, a relatively popular XT-class computer from the mid-1980s.

This unit was listed in the 1994 "PC Enterprises" catalog for only $9.95. The listing indicated that it is "Bell 103 compatible" and included communications software. By this year, some modems were already 14,400 or 28,800 bps.

Due to the low speed, it is no longer useful for Internet purposes, but may be used to access a dial-up BBS (Bulletin Board Service) if you can find one that is still operating.

Faster modems were also manufactured for this computer.
