Borg Johnson HS-912R Technical Details

POWER...

The HS-912R has very long battery life because it uses 2 "D" batteries, unlike most radios of similar size. The battery compartment door is sometimes difficult to remove. It can also be powered with a 3V adapter.

REPAIR...

Unlike some low-cost shortwave radios (which appear to be glued together), the HS-912R is designed in a way that allows for it to be repaired if necessary. There are five phillips-head screws on the outside of the radio, two of them hidden behind the antenna.

ANTENNA...

The telescoping antenna is used for reception of FM and SW bands. It is 21 inches (53.5 cm) long. It appears to be possible to replace the entire antenna or just the telescopic portion. Replacing the antenna on a portable radio is usually cheaper than buying a new radio.

FM BAND...

The HS-912R's FM band covers 64 to 108 MHz. The 64-88MHz portion includes the Japanese FM band, as well as analog VHF TV channels 2-6. TV audio can no longer be received with this radio in the U.S. (due to digital TV), but this is still possible in some countries.

SIZE...

This radio measures 3.5" (8.5cm) tall, 6" (15.5cm) wide, and 1.5" (4cm) thick. It weighs one pound and 3.5 ounces, or 553 grams. The wrist strap is almost six inches (15cm) long.

NOTE...

The HS-912R was also sold as a generic radio with no "Borg Johnson" logo.
