EQUITY 30220 FORECAST STATION REVIEW

Model 30220 is an inexpensive combined alarm clock, thermometer, and humidity indicator. This nice-looking unit from Equity features a large 3.5" (diagonal) LCD screen with a bright backlight, a snooze button, and a temperature trend graph.

The Equity 30220 "Digital Desktop Weather Station Alarm Clock" has an easy-to-read screen with the current time displayed largest. It also shows the temperature, humidity level, hourly temperature trend graph, and day of the week. By pressing a button or two, you can access the minimum/maximum temperatures it has recorded and the current date. It will display temperatures in fahrenheit or celsius.

The screen also shows a "Forecast" indicator. Apparently this shows a sun icon when the humidity is low and a rain icon when it's high, although the manual doesn't explain it. Otherwise, the instructions are fairly detailed and helpful. Some functions aren't obvious without the manual; for example, you have to hold down the UP/ALARM button for three seconds to change between 12- and 24-hour time.

For the most part, the station isn't complicated to use and its buttons are fairly large. The Equity 30220's alarm clock is moderately loud and becomes more rapid the longer it sounds. When tested with different-temperature rooms and steam from boiling water, the temperature and humidity levels changed accordingly. Be patient; it takes several minutes to catch up with such changes.

The Equity 30220 measures almost 6" tall, 3" wide, and 3/4" thick, not including the built-in stand. This device was designed for indoor use at temperatures above freezing. It's mostly black and takes two "AAA" batteries. Equity includes a two-year limited warranty.
