The Electro Brand model 2951 "World Ranger Multiband Radio with Cassette Tape Player" is a sophisticated analog receiver with numerous features. These include dual telescopic antennas, a signal meter, ten band reception, a dial light, tone & squelch controls, switchable AFC, and more.
The World Ranger covers AM, CB, FM, SW1/SW2 (shortwave; 4-12 MHz), TV1/TV2 (analog TV), and AIR/PB/WB (communications and weather; 108-175 MHz). There is a wide tuning scale and a fine tuning control. It also has a public address (P.A.) function. The radio runs on AC, DC, or battery power.
Unlike most radios, the Electro Brand World Ranger has separate earphone and headphone jacks, so just about any ear/headphones may be connected. It has built-in speakers as well. The slot for inserting cassette tapes is located on the front of the radio, with a single button that controls the player.
This unit has numerous similarities to the popular ElectroBrand 2971 multi-band radio, but the World Ranger doesn't have a graphic equalizer, a digital clock, or a direction-finder antenna. On the other hand, it has some controls and jacks the 2971 lacks, a carrying handle, and a wider tuning scale (handy for SW).
Judging from its design and logo style, the Electro Brand World Ranger 2951 multiband radio is probably older than the same manufacturer's model 4438, 2971, or 2016 radios, but newer than the 2161. It seems durable and long-lasting, though the chrome coatings on top of the knobs sometimes fall off.
NOTES: This model's FCC ID is BLS9RY 2951. There appears to be an older model of the Electro Brand World Ranger that doesn't have a cassette player and shouldn't be confused with this one, although they're similar in some ways.
