The Cobra FRS115 is a compact handheld walkie-talkie which can transmit and receive on the FRS (Family Radio Service) band. It also tunes in AM and FM broadcasts. The radio has a lighted (optional) LCD screen, built-in speaker, rubber-coated antenna (2.75" or 7cm long), and microphone/speaker jacks. The plastic exterior is red, with silver-colored buttons. AM reception is poor and FM fair, although they are probably acceptable if you live near a major city. Using headphones significantly improves FM reception; apparently they are also used as an antenna. The radio can automatically scan for strong stations, if desired. It covers 14 FRS channels and works well as a walkie-talkie. The microphone and speaker jacks have a rubber cover to protect them from water or dirt when not in use. A standard 1/8" speaker or earphone wire will plug into the speaker jack, but the microphone jack is smaller. With the right headphones, you can hear stereo sound on the FM band, with good, clear audio quality. There are no dials on the Cobra MicroTalk, everything (channel, volume, mode, power, etc) is controlled using buttons. It has ten buttons; channel up/down, mode, lock, light, volume up/down, talk, call, and power. It is necessary to hold the power button down a few seconds before it will turn on.
