There are several methods available to help you avoid or block unwanted telephone calls. The availability of these methods may depend upon your phone service provider and the country or region you live in. Here's how to block unwanted telephone calls...
U.S. SPECIFIC
1. If the caller(s) is a telemarketer and you're in the U.S., add your telephone number to the Do Not Call List.
2. If the caller is a debt collector, you can legally request (in writing) that they stop communicating with you.
GENERAL
1. You can buy a caller identification box and subscribe to caller ID service from your telephone company.
2. To stop some unwanted calls in general, you may request an unlisted phone number from the telephone company.
3. Another option is to purchase an answering machine and only respond if the call is from someone you want to communicate with.
If all of these methods fail, contact the phone company and see if you can get them to block telephone calls from the specific unwanted number. If you are receiving threatening telephone calls or they harass you repeatedly, report the callers to local police.
