3Com 3C589C Etherlink III PCMCIA Card Review

This is a LAN PC Card which may be installed in a laptop computer to enable Local Area Network connection.

The 3C589C Etherlink III can be connected to a "dongle" (3C-PC-COMBO-CBL), which allows it to be attached to a coaxial or ethernet (RJ45/10BASE-T) cable. According to the label, it supports PCMCIA 2.0/2.1 and the PC Card Standard. It was manufactured in the West European country of Ireland.

It is easy to install in any computer with the correct type of slot; there's no need to remove any screws or open up the machine. Installing a device such as this makes it possible to use a high-speed Internet connection (after it passes through a LAN router), even on an old 486 with DOS or Windows 95.

NOTES: If it doesn't work in the top slot, try it in the bottom one. A DOS 3Com packet driver (3C589PD) is available for this unit.
