1012XPKL Shortwave Radio Review

This generic pocket-sized radio features a telescoping antenna, wrist strap, built-in speaker, 3V power jack, tuning light, and earphone output. It covers the NOAA weather band, AM (530-1600 kHz), FM, the analog VHF TV band, and eight shortwave bands.

It can be powered using a three volt DC adapter or two "AA" batteries. The power switch is integrated into the volume control. The fact that it uses "AA" batteries should provide longer battery life than other pocket radios that use the smaller "AAA" batteries.

The 1012XPKL comes with a folding User Manual. The font is small, but it provides detailed specifications, instructions, and a diagram indicating the purpose of each part of the receiver. It's readable, though probably translated from a foreign language.

The tested unit was fairly easy to operate. It provided good reception on some bands but none at all on others. However, the desirable size and design of this compact 12 Band World Receiver makes it worth purchasing if you can find one for under ten dollars.
